The UCBA Trade Association is built by the leaders of the Los Angeles cannabis industry. UCBA is dedicated to bring awareness and increase the knowledge of our industry to policy makers and residents throughout California. By educating the general public about UCBA and our members, we believe our industry will have an established voice and presence that will resound throughout Sacramento and Los Angeles.

UCBA welcomes industry members to join our association and be a part of the next steps our industry is taking in Los Angeles. As a member of UCBA, you will gain access to industry news, political events, and member meetings. UCBA has partnered with the Selan Law Firm, Englander Knabe & Allen, and UFCW to work together to promote UCBA’s mission and to help our voice be heard. As our industry works together with government and local stakeholders, UCBA is dedicated to serving our patients, protecting our neighborhoods, and providing safer access.

In 2013, 63% of Los Angeles voters approved Proposition D, which granted a limited immunity to 135 medical marijuana dispensaries. Since the passage of Proposition D, the number of illegal marijuana operations has increased to what some estimate to be over 1,000 shops. Many of the illegal operations are open within close proximity to schools, churches and parks, which is illegal under Proposition D. Click here for more information.

The Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act, which was signed by Governor Brown in late 2015 creates comprehensive oversight for the industry including the cultivation, distribution and sale of marijuana products throughout California. The bill requires certification and licensing from the State of California in order for a local jurisdiction to allow any form for Medical Marijuana commerce. The Act prohibits a person from engaging in commercial cannabis activity without possessing both a State license and a local permit, license, or other authorization. The UCBA believes that keeping our members informed and engaged is critically important, particularly as it relates to relevant policy and political issues involving the industry. UCBA members provide input on local and statewide legislative activities affecting our industry, help determine overall strategy and participate in the political decision making process. UCBA members are the backbone of the UCBA and have a real and active role in shaping our political, policy and regulatory decisions. Join Us!
